This event idea was started in May 2011 by then Frederick-Firestone Fire Chief Ted Poszywak and Barb Goettsch of Carbon Valley Rotary. They created a committee of numerous companies, individuals and organizations which became Mile of Smiles for the first GRAND event on September 11, 2011. It is a spinoff of what the fire district had done for a few years, lining up along I-25, standing at attention, and honoring the Veterans in the buses on their way to Washington, DC. The trips are arranged by High Plains Honor Flight Organization.
Line ups are on the West Frontage Road – next to the helicopter pad
3991 Rowe Street in Frederick.
We’ll do it again in 2020 so check back with us!
